Black Holes

Hi frenz!!

i never imagined reading about black holes would ever be so interesting,
here's a question on the same;

- is the statement 'black holes have infinite density' that we've learnt in the junior classes 'really' correct??

whatever be your reason, it should not include big theories by scientists. All i need u to do is to answer the question using whatever knowledge u've gained in class XI-XII in physics.
HINT- just a simple equation will do it for you (if you know which one!).

Also some people (very few) reckon that the blackholes might not actually be blackholes but 'wormholes'. A wormhole (in science fiction) is like a portal, allowing inter-galactic travel. Kewl wont it be? Travelling across the universe in a blink of the eye!
Unfortunately, this idea has been trashed by physicists all over the world.
But we still can dream about it, cant we?

Nope they don't have infinite density. The level of mathematics needed to explain them PROPERLY has not been developed as of yet. As for the equation, it's the Einstein Field equations you'd want to look at. It's not a dream. It's a theoretical reality.

For example : Mark two points anywhere on a sheet of paper. Now what is the shortest distance between these two points? A line? WRONG! It's a wormhole... and how? You just fold the paper till the two points are above each other :-)

Okay, crapper? One thing you have going for you is your name. If I ever heard anyone dish out crap it would be you. As for the question, I have no idea.

It's not crap... You can verify it if you want, my pal...

My dear friend 'arcane crapper'(heaven knows why you kept this name!). I wasnt looking for Einstein's field eqns to give me the answer, i was lookin 4 something simpler and basic.
Anywayz, watever u said abt the wormholes was fascinating! U know, when I read that some scientists said that wormholes can only be part of science fiction, i ddnt want 2 believe it.And now, im glad dat it mite bcome a reality one day.

Folding up paper so that 2 pts. lie over one another is very DIFFERENT from folding up the universe (rather space, i shd say), but it isnt impossible! Remember Einstein's theory of general relativity?
He said space around an object becomes curved or 'warped' due its grav. field, stronger the field, more is the 'warpping'.
An extremely massive and dense object, such as a big black hole, mite have such a strong grav. field dat space around it bcomes so warped dat 2 pts. (which may be very far) overlap (just as when you'd folded the paper). Travelling b/w the pts would require li'l expenditure of energy. However, a big problem would be how to escape the grav. field of the black hole once the journey is complete(remeber, even light couldnt escape the black holes grav. field).

I believe it would be the ultimate triumph of the human mind if we can discover, explain and predict every phenomenon in the universe.
